2023 Second Quarter Investment Update

Reviewing economic conditions, our expectation for recession has been delayed, not canceled. It is our expectation there is no economic “free lunch” where we simply skip a business cycle and move to a new expansion – there are plenty of signs that challenges lie ahead, many of which could appear in months rather than years.

2023 First Quarter Investment Update

Our expected outcome is that the economy will enter a recession later this year, as the effects of monetary policy continue to impact businesses and consumers. We expect peak effects will not be felt until later this year, and although difficult to predict, there will likely be other financial and credit stresses like those seen with the failed banks in March.

2023 Investment Outlook

As we turn the calendar to 2023, we look ahead with a mix of optimism and concern. We expect that the effects of 2022’s rate hikes are still being absorbed into the economy. The U.S. economy must prove that it can thrive in a higher-rate environment, something it has not had to do over any sustained period since last century.

Southeastern Trust Company Presents The Nutcracker

Southeastern Trust Company is excited to present upcoming performances of The Nutcracker by the Chattanooga Ballet. The Nutcracker will feature the professional ballet company, the Chattanooga Symphony Orchestra performing live, a live choir, as well as 200 students from Chattanooga Ballet’s School and the area.

2022 Third Quarter Investment Update

Investors rode the roller coaster this summer following the stock market selloff in June. A sharp rally in July and early August was followed by an equally violent reversal in the final weeks of the quarter, leading to a new low for the S&P 500 Index on the final day of September.
